Support English

The English Kindergarten to Year 10 syllabus recognises that students learn at different rates and in different ways. By using the teaching and learning cycle (assessing, planning, programming, implementing and evaluating), teachers can ensure that the individual learning needs of all students are considered and a learning environment is created that supports students to achieve the outcomes of the syllabus.

In the support unit at Riverstone High School, students are presented with engaging English topics that allow for high engagement, while addressing their specific language, vocabulary and communication needs.

The topics that will be studied in 2017 are as follows:

  • Term 1 – Picture book study: My Place by Nadia Wheatley
  • Term 2 – Poetry unit: It's Time To Rhyme
  • Term 3 – Non-fiction unit: Australian Heroes
  • Term 4 – Narrative study: Short stories from Australia and around the world.
